The best way around it? Find someone to be accountable to! Be accountable to each other and you’ll both see your success skyrocket. What does that mean and what does it look like?

Your accountability partner is someone you set goals with. Then you report back to each other about your achievements. Check in every week to set your goals and every day to report what you’ve done. If you’ve told someone else you’re going to get something done, you’re much more likely to do it. It works in every kind of environment, in any kind of relationship.

We’ve used this technique over the years – it wasn’t always easy to commit to someone, but it helped us to get more done. You can’t show up too often and tell your accountability partner that you were planning to make 35 phone calls today but decided that cleaning the refrigerator was just more important.

We get distracted, we procrastinate. It’s human nature and we have to find a way to overcome it. This works really well and it gives you someone to share the excitement of the work you’re doing and it gives you a buddy to pick you up from the disappointments that occur as well.

It’s important though to monitor your work with this partner – don’t let it fall into chatting and AVOID NEGATIVITY at all costs. If your accountability partner is negative or not productive – get a new one and we mean that. This is business. Be businesslike. Time is precious and you need to build momentum in your business. This is not for chatting or visiting, it’s for sticking to your goals and making your business fly. It’s about planning your work and working your plan.

If you can do this and commit to it for 8 weeks, and really push yourself during that time to do A LOT for your business; you will see a huge change in your work habits, your success rate and ultimately, your paycheck. As the phrase goes: JUST DO IT! Then tell us how it worked for you…

Along the way you’ll also get a good number of part time people who contribute to your business in a slow and steady way and those people are critically important to your growth. Statistics show that the average person builds a home-based business to supplement, not replace their income.

A great analogy is the deck of cards. In every deck there are four aces. You start turning cards over, your very first card might be an ace. Or, you may have to turn over 15 or 20 cards before you get the first ace – in your deck or on your team. Your job is to have the focus and persistence to stay in the game until you find those aces. They are the people who build big, sometimes fast and who have the ability to change your life in the process of changing their own.

Lead by example – be upbeat, stay focused on your goals and spend your time talking to people about your business. Make a game of getting “NOs”. You very likely can’t get 25 people to say no to you without finding a few will say YES!

Get to the important questions quickly and weed out the people who don’t have an interest in changing their lives, at least right now. Always remember, it has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with them. It’s not personal! You have something of great value to offer and whether someone is ready to see that, ready to act on it, well – that’s up to them. Your job is to offer it enough times to enough people to find the ones ready to make things happen.

Where else can you get everything you need: a track to run, a proven success model and people who will teach you what to do?

I know, it doesn’t always works that way – but if you find the right company and get with ethical, honest (and dare I say it?), fun people – it can be the best ride of your life. Are we those people? We are. We love this industry, we love working with people – we better – we have four kids!

We’ve made some our best friends through networking. Networkers love to have the conversation about finding the ideal prospect – who is it? Where do you find them? The one thing networkers have in common is entrepreneurship and usually some vision. The best networkers also have some gumption – an ability to get in there and get the job done. To do what needs doing.

We love this industry that so many people seem to love to hate. Because we know the money is real, the control over your own time and life is pure bliss and helping other people realize their dreams is great when it works.

When it doesn’t work it can be heartbreaking – let me say that so you don’t think I have a totally Polly-ana-ish view! But, if you are businesslike about it all, and learn to let people rise to their own ability and let them go if they don’t, you sleep better and make more money in the bargain.
